Well, Volvo has reduced the hassle of choosing the trim that suits you the best. The 2020 Volvo v90 Cross Country is offered in only one T6 AWD trim priced at $54,550. Powered by a turbo- and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that puts out 316 horses. The T6 variant brings a lot of welcome luxury features which help it justify the price tag, which is undoubtedly a tad bit bloated. It comes loaded with a bunch of safety features that come in handy when driving on freeways.
This 2.0L engine is twin-charged and offers the best of both worlds with 316hp and 295 lb.ft. of torque. This engine employs a supercharger for lower rpm and switches over to a turbocharger after 3000 rpm. The clever use of twin charging extracts most out of its 2.0 Liter displacement and ensures a lag-free power delivery throughout the engine's power band. A responsive 8-speed automatic transmission is there to shift gears.

Acceleration
2020 Volvo V90 Cross Country is much slower in initial, 0-60 MPH acceleration. The ride takes 6.5 seconds, yes that much, for reaching 60 MPH. This is the lowest figure in the competition. The E450 is the quickest and takes merely 5.1 seconds to reach 60 MPH.
However, past the initial acceleration hiccup, V90 Cross Country covers a quarter-mile in 16.4 seconds. Not impressive, but great considering the fact that Audi A4 covers a quarter-mile in 14.3 seconds. Mercedes-Benz E450 takes 13.7 seconds for covering a quarter-mile. Due to the use of a 4-cylinder engine, the V90 Cross Country scores handsomely on emission tests.

Handling characteristics of the Volvo V90 Cross Country inspire confidence. The V90 Cross Country offers 4 pleasing driving modes, namely Comfort, Dynamic, Eco, and Off-road. Even if there is no Sport Mode available for engaging in a high-spirited driving, there is another way around. Simply putting the ride into manual mode via the paddle shifters will do the trick.
Even with the firmer Dynamic setting, the V90 Cross Country feels softly sprung. The suspension is compliant and tuned more towards comfort. It loads up evenly and predictably and unloads out of corners in an impressive manner. The V90 strikes the sweet middle spot, it provides a compliant ride without being too stiff or too soft for your liking.
The Volvo V90 Cross Country may not have enticing acceleration but braking is something it has mastered. Volvo has fitted the V90 Cross Country with the big brake rotors at 13.6 inches in the front and 12.6 inches in the rear. This allows the wagon to stop from 60 mph in less than 110 ft.

Audi A4 Allroad Prestige lacks a little in comparison with the V90 Cross Country for the combined fuel economy. However, it delivers 22 and 30 mpg in cities and highways, respectively. Mercedes-Benz E450 lags behind the class rivals in terms of mileage. Merc offers a combined fuel economy of 21 mpg.
Bolting a supercharger and turbocharger is not a great feat in itself, there are a lot of aftermarket kits that yield similar results. But when we talk about refinement, it is a completely different story. Team Volvo has done a great job with the powertrain. It is refined, uninterrupted and ultimately delivers a quiet environment inside the cabin.
The Volvo V90 cross country offers comfortable seating for up to 5 occupants. The cabin is loaded with oodles of space for all passengers be it the front or the rear. The headroom is the only thing that can be complained about and is bound to become an issue, especially for the taller folks. Opting for the top trim also bundles in the massage and ventilated seats which are a welcome benefit.

The 2020 Volvo V90 Cross Country features a center-mounted 8-inch touch screen loaded with the Volvo MMI. The screen is responsible for handling all the functions of the car ranging from the A/C to the infotainment. The screen requires complete attention to operate which requires the driver to look away from the road. The MMI is one of the most unreliable and unrefined amongst all. It lags and lags to no end and menu changes eat a significant amount of time.
The Cross Country flaunts Volvo's proprietary infotainment system dubbed Sensus Infotainment System. Sensus gives a fair competition to popular proprietary infotainment systems, including the iDrive and COMAND. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support are available with Sensus.
Coupled with a 12.3-inch driver's instrument display, Sensus Infotainment System provides support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The ample 9.0-inch touch display gives you information about navigation as well as music you're tuned to. A row of physical buttons is placed elegantly below the display.
The Volvo V90 Cross Country is a station wagon and offers oodles of space in the boot. With 53.9 cubic feet of maximum cargo space (after folding the rear seats), 2020 Volvo V90 Cross Country offers ample space for luggage. The loading angles and the overall space inside the boot are optimized well. There is also a boot lip which eliminates the chances of scratches on the body. There is also an optional roof rack that can be added to your V90 for a marginal price.

Exterior Features
Volvos are renowned all over the world for their safety and the V90 Cross Country is no different. It has not been tested yet by any crash testing agency. The structural integrity can be expected to be top notch. There are also a host of active and passive safety features that add to the overall safety and reliability ratings of the car. Unfortunately, the Wagon didn't undergo safety tests conducted by IIHS and NHTSA.
Volvo has been at the forefront of safety campaigns globally. The V90 is no stranger when it comes to world-class safety features.
With pricing starting from $64,200, Mercedes-Benz E450 is the most expensive vehicle in the segment. Unlike V90 and A4, the ride packs a 3.0L 6-cylinder engine. It totals out at 362 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. E450 shoots to 60 MPH in a mere 5.1 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz E450 offers a combined fuel economy of 21 mpg. This is the least in the competition. Moreover, the ride has a curb weight of 4229 lbs. In this segment, But, it does feature one of the most fuss-free driving experience. The car is extremely functional and very straightforward to drive. It is also the most planted and joyous around the corner amongst the rivals.
Like the V90 Cross Country, A4 Allroad Premium packs a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. However, it generates a lesser amount of horsepower and torque, 248 hp and 273 lb.-ft., respectively. Nonetheless, the ride has an acceptable 0-60 MPH acceleration time of 5.9 seconds which happens to be almost 2 seconds faster than the V90.
Audi A4 Allroad Premium also offers a combined mileage lower than the V90 Cross Country (25 MPG). The ride, however, is less bulky with a curb weight of 3825 lbs. and offer a better cargo capacity of 24.2 cubic feet. Moreover, A4 Allroad Premium offers a league-leading front headroom of 39.2 inches.
The Volvo V90 Cross Country breaks stereotypes that have always been associated with station wagon successfully. It offers the capabilities of a crossover sans the downsides of one. The comfort is as good as any sedan from its segment. There is also a cabin that can put even the more expensive models to shame. Adding to the interior is the refreshingly butch and smart exterior. There are a few niggles in the form of a laggy MMI and a lethargic engine but overall, all-weather station wagons are as good as it gets.
