2020 Toyota RAV4 SUV Infotainment and Interior Features

Updated on: March 25, 2020

The Toyota RAV4 has been around for a very long time now and it was never known for its interior. It was never carpeted in lambswool and it never had an extravagant interior. The RAV4 was meant to carry your dog around and that is what it still excels at. The interior is simple and neat- but it still offers nice materials that make the RAV4 a good place to be in.

Hows the first impression?

Toyota has worked hard to ensure that the interiors of the RAV4 look and feel as premium as it could. Their hard work has paid off well as the RAV4 has one of the most functional interiors in the segment.

The design language is minimal and a scaled-down version of larger Toyota SUVs. You'll find soft-touch materials in key touch points which will make you appreciate Toyota's efforts. The dual-tone combination as shown in the picture combines with an available leather-wrapped steering wheel to good effect.

The contours and build of the steering wheel make it extremely comfortable to hold and fun to drive. The mounted controls are easily within the reach of the driver. The steering does not block the view of the dial cluster in any way.

There are also tons of storing spaces all across the cabin such as a place to keep your phone right next to the shifter. There are also two cup holders for the driver and the co-driver near the armrests. Lifting the armrest will open to vertical storing space. The rear seat armrests are tucked into the middle seat. There are also bottle holders in all 4 door panels.

How comfortable is it?

The Toyota RAV4 can seat 5 people. The front seats are well cushioned and offer plenty of support to the passengers. However, the seat bottoms on the front seats do start to feel a little too flat after a while and the front seats are also positioned slightly higher than normal. This would not really matter a lot to most people but it may bother taller passengers. Taller people might also find it slightly difficult to get into an ideal driving position due to the seat height. But overall the front seats are comfortable enough for everyday use.

The back seats are well-padded and offer a lot of support even on longer journeys. What adds to the comfort is the fact that the seat-backs can be reclined. In terms of room in the back seats, the RAV4 is at par with its rivals such as Kia Sorento and Santa Fe.

Getting in and out of the car is also very easy due to the moderately high seating level. Other creature comforts such as air conditioning also work impressively. The cabin feels quiet for the most part except for a coarse engine noise which can be heard at higher RPMs.

The suspension strikes a balance between being too soft and too firm. Considering the height and size of the car, there is some body roll during hard turns but it does not feel dangerous at any point. It provides a comfortable ride to the passengers.

How much cargo can it carry?

The RAV4 has a cargo volume of 37.5 cubic feet behind the back seats. The seats can be folded down to make a total of 69.8 cubic feet which makes it quite roomy.

The best part is that the rear seats fold down almost completely flat which makes it easier to slide stuff to the front of the car.

Moreover, the liftover height is low which makes it easy to load heavy stuff into the car. The parcel shelf also has a dedicated place under the cargo floor so yeah, it won’t get lost.

What’s there to entertain you?

2020 Toyota RAV4 has the same 8-inch touch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa integration that was found on its predecessor. The car also adds Android Auto and Sirius XM as standard this year. While the physical controls for the infotainment system are good, the system itself feels dated and the graphics are also not at par with the rivals.

It also comes standard with turn by turn navigation program and a 7-inch multi-information display for the driver. The infotainment system also supports voice recognition. In terms of sound quality, the base system does not offer a lot but the optional Bose system is pretty impressive. The Bose system is also standard from the Premium trim onwards.

Should you buy the RAV4?

Definitely yes. It’s one of the best cars in the segment. Great performance, spacious and comfortable cabin, excellent fuel efficiency. Thus, to keep it short, if you are looking for fun to drive crossover, Toyota RAV4 should be one of your top choices.
