Toyota first came up with Camry back in 1982 as a compact car and over the years the Camry has grown up to be a sedan. The Toyota Camry has been in production for 38 years and now with the launch of the 2020 Toyota Camry its sure that the car is going to stay in the market for long.

The Camry is one of the most successful cars in the industry. The major reason behind Camry's successful run is the fact that Toyota hasn't done too much experimentation with it. The Camry has always been a very basic car and it does all the basic things correctly and this is something that gives the Camry an edge over its rivals.

We recommend

The Camry is not the car that you generally flaunt. Functionality and practicality is what this car is supposed to offer. Analyzing all the features offered across all the variants, the base L variant of the Camry makes more sense. It comes with all the basic essential features and comes as a great value for your money. But if you want a more powerful Camry, opt for the XLE V6 trim which will cost you 11 grand more than the base L.

2020 Toyota Camry Engine and Performance

8.0/10

The 2020 Camry comes equipped with 2 engine specifications: a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and a 3.5-liter V6 engine. The V6 however, is just available for the XLE and XSE trims as an option with both priced at $34,450 and $35,000 respectively. The 2.5-liter engine generates 203 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque while the 3.5-liter V6 makes 301 horsepower and massive 267 pound-feet of torque.

The 8-speed Automatic transmission is smooth and shifts are hassle-free. Even the downshifting is pretty decent in the Camry. There’s enough credibility on the Camry’s engine that already gives it a run for its class already. The Camry does very well compared to its peers for a number of reasons and makes for a great choice.

Acceleration

As this is the most powerful car in the segment, the acceleration is really impressive. The Camry hits the 60 MPH mark in 5.8 secs which is remarkable performance when compared to its competitors. The underpowered rivals of the Camry, the Honda Accord and the Nissan Altima lacks a lot in terms of acceleration. The Honda does 0-60 MPH in 7.6 secs. while the Altima does it in 7.7 secs.

Ride and Handling

The ride quality and handling of the Camry has improved a lot when compared to its predecessor. The engine responses are sharper and the gear shifts are more refined. Driving the Camry has become sportier and driving it is fun.

The Camry does handle really well. There isn’t much body roll and is well mannered. The steering isn’t sharp like a sports car but you do feel connected and the level of feedback from the steering wheel is good. It is a docile car and will readily follow all your commands.

Toyota has indeed left no stone unturned to ensure the luxury of its upscale interiors aid on its top-of-the-class driving experience. All Camry trims have electric power steering. The Wheel itself is no short of comfort as the SE models have a beautiful looking leather-wrapped steering wheel, stitched for handling convenience.

 Braking

The Camry is equipped with the largest brakes in the segment. It gets 12 inches diameter discs up front and 11.1 inches diameter discs at the rear. Slam the brakes and the Camry will come to a halt at a distance of 123 feet from 60 MPH.

7.8/10
