The new Batman movie scheduled for the fall of 2021 sees the Dark Knight return to one of his earliest days of crime-fighting. Though there are many high-tech gadgets the Batman employs in his endeavor, there are few that surpass his fantastic automobile. The Batmobile has evolved with the character’s portrayal.
Since 1989, the Batmobile has received some heat for being more of an aggressive vehicle than a true law enforcer. Recent iterations like Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman featured tanks built for all-out war.
However, Matt Reeves and his team had a different outlook and went back to the source material. Now that the shots of the new Batmobile have been revealed, it seems that it is heavily inspired by American muscle cars.
This new Batmobile features the design tropes of the Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang. Matt Reeves earlier revealed that he wanted to use the C7 Corvette as a basis, making it clear that Batman has only started his crime-fighting career and yet to develop more technology.
The engine in the photos seems to be an LT4 V8, the same one as in the C7 Corvette Z06. While the stock version puts out 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, it is highly likely that this one’s been modified.
The configuration puts away from other recent iterations of the Batmobile that featured a gas turbine. While the chassis is strengthened, its coupe design features less armor than the Tumbler. Some might argue that this version is not that aerodynamic. Nevertheless, Batmobile is supposed to look cool rather than break even with proper car design.
And it is not just the Batmobile, either. Robert Pattinson, who plays a younger Bruce Wayne in the movie, featured donning the cowl in a teaser reveal. Despite high-tech armor, the Batsuit seems highly rudimentary. It is rumored that the bat symbol in the chest piece is a throwable projectile, built from the gun that killed Bruce’s parents.
While we eagerly await Matt Reeves’ take on the character, the movie’s production is also inciting speculation regarding the storyline.
Other notable roles in the cast include Zoe Kravitz(Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman), Paul Dano(Edward Nashton a.k.a The Riddler), Colin Farrell(Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. Penguin), John Turturro(Carmine Falcone a.k.a. The Roman), Jeffrey Wright(Commissioner Gordon), and Andy Serkis(Alfred Pennyworth).
The Batman is set to release on August 6, 2021, provided the production remains on schedule. Stay tuned for more news and an up-close look of the new Batmobile.
