RAM 3500HD is Dodge’s heavy-duty series of trucks that are available in numerous bed and cab specifications. For 2021, the 3500HD scores good on practicality, as it always has, however, with changing times, RAM needs to maintain its appeal, and this facelift will mainly revolve around that.

The Pickup truck space has grown to be one of the best selling segments in the American Car Market, and carmakers have capitalized on this opportunity, consequently, we have had some very capable offerings over the years.

The RAM 3500HD has been a prominent member of this segment and has been selling great numbers, not only that, it has been a popular choice owing to its reliability and practicality. RAM has updated the truck in recent times too, we saw the 5thgeneration in 2019 and a facelift in 2020, now as we move towards 2021, RAM is going to refresh the truck, and we expect it to be even better.

The 3500HD had received a major revamp in 2019, and a minor facelift in 2020, so we do not expect any significant changes this year, except for some styling changes and few updated design cues for the crew cab, as the main focus is on increasing its visual appeal, the regular cab though, is rumored to receive a new motor, which might even make a debut in the crew cab. However, there has been no official confirmation on this by RAM, and how much or how many of the rumors will get materialized is yet to be seen.

What’s New in the 2021 RAM 3500HD Crew Cab?

  • Updated Bumpers
  • Updated Grille
  • New infotainment features

Expected Price and Release Date of the 2021 RAM 3500HD?

The new truck is expected to be launched in the second half of 2020, and we expect a slight increase in price owing to the design changes. The 3500HD starts at around $32,000 right now, and we expect the new version to be about $1,000 dollars North of the current pricing.

What to expect from the engine department of the 2021 RAM 3500HD?

The 2021 RAM 3500HD will get the same motor that you get with the ongoing model if the speculations are not true, and it is a decent motor. The 6.4L V8 HEMI motor churns out 410hp and 429lbfts of torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, and you also get the additional facility of switching of cylinders, or the cylinder deactivation system under moderate or simple usage. The diesel motor though comes with a hefty price tag which might be a downer for some, but for what it's worth, many people will still opt for it.

Now, 2021 RAM 3500HD is rumored to get a new motor like the regular cab version, but as there is no official confirmation from RAM, we are siding with the existing motor. The motor is a reliable and frugal one and has been a good workhorse over the years.

Other competitors in this segment such as the F-350 from ford and Chevy’s Silverado 3500HD and its sibling the GMC Sierra 3500HD offer similar engine choices, but the Flex Fuel V8 used by Ford, as the name suggests, is the most flexible and hence the most economical but Chevy’s Duramax diesel engines offer unparalleled torque so if pulling heavy loads is one of your requirements, then you might wanna take a look at the GMC or the Chevy.

How well will the 2021 RAM 3500HD handle?

In simple words, it hands like a pickup. It has heavy, weighted steering, which is moderately precise and it has a decent ride quality, which cushions you against most rough sections of tarmac. The truck is a heavy-duty vehicle and has great towing capabilities, and it works best in its comfort zone.

We expect a heavy-duty pickup to be powerful, reliable, and practical, we want it to offer a comfortable ride, and the 3500HD just does that. However, if you try to push it around corners, you wouldn’t be really happy driving this around. The truck has immense towing and payload capacity and you will be more than impressed with the way it performs there, it can haul a really big trailer with ease and the motor complements these capabilities in every way possible.

How many miles to the gallon will the 2021 RAM 3500HD Crew Cab deliver?

The heavy-duty pickup trucks are not rated for fuel-efficiency by EPA, so like all its rivals, the 3500HD does not have an EPA-rated fuel efficiency figure, however, we do know from some users that you can expect somewhere between 12-13mpg combined fuel efficiency from the 3500HD.

The figures will vary, depending on the way you drive, how much payload and towing it is handling, and how often you floor the pedal to the ground.

If you plan to haul heavy such as a 5th wheel or a trailer over long distances, then a diesel might be your best option as they offer a considerable amount of savings in the long run, but otherwise, you should be fine with the V8. Ford’s Flex Fuel V8 is also a great option as it offers a lot of versatility.

What to expect from the RAM 3500HD Crew Cab’s interior?

The interior is one of this truck’s unique selling points, or USP’s. The truck has superb interiors, which can easily be compared with luxury vehicles in all aspects, be it materials, design, layout, tech, upholstery, just bring it on and the 3500HD has all of it.

There are rumors that the 2021 RAM 3500HD Crew Cab is going to get an even better interior in this new version, something similar to what you get on the more lifestyle-oriented RAM 1500 pickup.

Now, talking about the interiors, the 3500HD gets the best-in-class infotainment system, with the largest touchscreen and fantastic tech on offer. The dashboard is made of superb materials, you get real wood, aluminum and leather finish every here and there. The seats are grand and very well bolstered and comfortable in every way you can imagine, the leather feels soft to touch and the cabin has a luxurious aura.

Space was never a problem with this car and you get ample legroom and headroom in the front and rear seats, the seats offer great under-thigh support and are electrically adjustable with lumbar support. Some reports say that the interior of the new car will not only be more advanced technologically but is also expected to free up more space.

2021 RAM 3500HD Crew Cab: Infotainment and Connectivity

The 3500HD Crew Cab definitely comes loaded with tech, the lower trims get a 5-inch, and the screen grows as you move up the trim levels. The Tesla style infotainment will continue to be the same but it might get better hardware and slicker software to keep in line with the latest lineup from Dodge. The car gets a lot of entertainment, driver assistance, and safety features and it will satiate all your technological needs.

The system also gets an optional 17-speaker audio system powered by Harman Kardon, and it works really well and we would go as far as to call it the best-in-segment. We expect the 2021 version to get a few more additions to the system upgrades, alongside new optional packages.

Will there be any changes to the exterior of the 2021 RAM 3500HD Crew Cab?

The 2021 version of the 3500HD Crew Cab is expected to be more visually striking, and we expect that the manufacturer will put a greater emphasis on the design aspect of the truck. There are reports and spy shots which indicate that the new version of the 3500HD will have a new, fancier front fascia and more changes in the design elements of the front end, this will help maintain the appeal of the truck and keep it competitive in a booming segment.

The 2021 version is borrowing design cues from the smaller RAM 1500, and most of the cosmetic changes are focused on the front ends, for instance, the 2021 truck is expected to get a newly designed headlamp setup alongside a chrome garnished redesigned grille. On the rear end, the tail lamps are expected to be revamped.

The truck is expected to have the same dimensions and the majority of the changes will be limited to cosmetic changes such as revised bumpers and grill, to give it a more modern look. RAMs top contender, the F-series pickup from Ford is also expected to get significant upgrades so it will be interesting to see how they fare against each other.

Will the 2021 RAM 3500HD Crew Cab be worth my money and time?

The 3500HD is a pretty capable offering in its segment and will be worth your time if you’re in the market for a premium heavy-duty pickup. The truck has a luxurious interior, supremely spacious cabin, modern and advanced tech features, and a decently comfortable ride. It even has a decent score on the reliability front and one must give it a try before making any decision.

For the buyers who have made up their mind to buy the RAM 3500HD Crew Cab, we would strongly recommend waiting for the 2021 version, as it will pack a lot of positive design changes, some new features, and packages, and is visually more appealing. Also, the wait won’t be too long as the launch is expected in the second half of 2020.
