Mercedes has been wooing us with its beautiful cars- the sedans, coupes, sports cars, SUVs, and what's not. The biggest of all is the Mercedes GLS, the full-size 7-seater luxury SUV. Launched in the year 2006, the GLS is now in its 3rd generation. A unique Maybach model was launched in 2019, which is an ultra-luxury version of the GLS. The Maybach GLS is designed with luxury and only luxury in mind. However, the 4-liter V8 under the hood might lead you to believe otherwise.

Being an ultra-luxury SUV, most of the features are high-end and standard. The Maybach logo and badging can be seen all over the Maybach GLS. If we compare the standard GLS with the Maybach GLS, the Maybach model offers a better and bigger package with enhanced styling, interior, comfort, and performance. Mercedes-Maybach GLS rivals the Rolls Royce Cullinan, Bentley Bentayga, and Aston Martin DBX.

What's New with the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS?

  • Updated design with new LED lights and chrome addition
  • Ultra-luxury interior with recliners, leather upholstery, and touch screens
  • 20-inch chrome wheels
  • Massive chrome grill with Maybach badging

What's the Expected price and release date of the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS?

The Maybach GLS is ready for launch and is expected to go on sale at the end of 2020. The Maybach GLS is all ready to roll out on the open roads with its swag. As the standard GLS is priced around $100,000, Mercedes will ask a lot more for the Maybach edition as it is revamped into something else and the luxury on the Maybach GLS is similar to what we see on Mercedes' very own Maybach S class saloon.

We can expect a price of around $2,00,000 which is still lower than the Rolls Royce Cullinan which is offered against a hefty price. Mercedes here is charging a competitive price as the SUV is fabulous and there's no such flaws or drawbacks with it that makes it less worthy of competing in the high-end segment.

What's under the hood of the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS?

The Maybach GLS is the most modern interpretation of luxury by Mercedes, and certainly a bizarre one. Daimler accomplished it just like it addresses the S class. The 2021 Maybach GLS is powered by a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine mated with EQ Boost and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. It may not seem like a lot for a top of the line vehicle, but the Mercedes eight still generates a good 550 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque.

If that's not adequate for you, check out the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 that offers a 603-hp from a similar powertrain. The mild-hybrid system adds 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, and the total output is around 100 hp more than the standard GLS.

The 9G Tronic 9-speed transmission is a smooth hand. The 4matic AWD system comes standard with the Maybach GLS. Both of them help in enhancing performance irrespective of terrain and provide maximum control at high speeds.

All the SUVs output a massive number of horses through their powertrain. The Maybach GLS, the Bentley Bentayga, and the Aston Martin DBX offer the same 4.0L V-8 engine with near about outputs.

In terms of acceleration, 0-60 mph run is easy for the Maybach GLS as it does it in just 4.8 seconds. The quarter-mile timing is also great with just 13.1 seconds and the Maybach GLS tops its speed at 155mph.Those numbers tell us how an SUV can do what we expect from a sports car. The DBX and Bentayga are somehow quicker than both Cullinan and Maybach GLS.

How well does 2021 Mercedes-Maybach 2021 Handle?

The Maybach GLS is one of the most advanced SUVs in the segment. The steering feels light, and the credit goes to its E-active body control suspension. The proper torque adjustment with each gear by the multi-plate clutch enhances the SUV's stability handling and control. For better safety, there's a dynamic stability control system onboard with traction control to keep the Maybach GLS and its 4 wheels on the road.

The latter part is done by the Airmatic suspension, which controls the damping, pitching, and lifting at each wheel individually to provide better ride quality, control, and comfort. The Drive modes onboard vary the driving dynamics by adjusting the suspension to focus on comfort and proper handling of any terrain.

The amazing off-road drive system adjusts the suspension to enhance the passenger's comfort during offroading. The Dynamic drive select increases the comfort levels and controls the body movement of the SUV. Also, it has a recovery mode that will help you when your SUV gets stuck. The system will repeatedly adjust the suspension to reduce the tires' ground pressure, and the 4matic AWD system will do its trick.

How many MPGs to expect from the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS?

These fire breathing SUVs tend to have lesser mpg and weak fuel economy as they carry massive engines that generate immense power and torque. With the advancement of mild-hybrid technology, the Maybach GLS tries to be a little more frugal than others.

Consumers who will be cross-shopping the GLS600 against the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan won't be too worried about fuel efficiency.

The Maybach GLS even has its own dedicated fragrance: White Osmanthus Blossom rounded off with Spicy Tea.

The seats are power-adjustable with a massaging function to reduce your stress. The overall interior is a combination of leather, chrome, and beautiful woodwork. The looks are alluring and the feel is premium. The steering placement is perfect in terms of height. What to expect from the exterior of the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS?

It is difficult to define the Maybach GLS's appearance other than grand. The standard GLS is already a good-looking SUV, but the Maybach's unique grille, 21-inch wheels, and three-pointed star hood decoration add a pat of old-school panache. The stylish, bold looks of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS makes it unique. The beautiful curves, the massive wheels, the LED lights, whole body chrome accents, and premium colors make it the appropriate luxury SUV. The Maybach badging encompasses the car to attract kneen eyes. The chrome grille is extensive, it seems like the grilles are expanding like the new BMWs and Volvo XC90.

The two-tone color scheme makes people wonder what color to choose. The chrome is a part of the Maybach GLS as it is all over the body, be it the roof rails, the window panels, the rear, and front surrounding the lights. The elegant design and those sharp edges make the GLS a real head-turner.
