When talking about off-road, Land Rover is amongst the first names that pop up in our head. The company for a long time is making the finest and superior off-road machines. Land Rover has bought rugged and off-road SUVs that had barebone and basic interiors to utterly luxurious interiors and top of the line tech. For 2021, the company has started updating its vehicle line-up starting with the Discovery. Unlike the 2020 model, the 2021 Land Rover Discovery is expected to boast of a high-tech interior loaded with lots of convenience accessories. We shall also see some design tweaks in the upcoming Discovery SUV.

Land Rover started experiencing mud and the adventurous trails in the late 1980s. This is when people started taking their vehicles for some serious off-road fun. Since then this capable SUV got three major generation changes for the current model which came into being in the year 2017. The 2021 Land Rover Discovery test mule has been spied on several occasions and the SUV is likely to come up with an upgraded interior with the latest features and accessories.

Through the years this British carmaker has done a dime not to kill the legacy of such legendary SUVs and keeping up with its German rivals. Talking about the rivals, in terms of features the Discovery was fairly at power with them but when it comes to rough roads or no roads at all, it is the Discovery who had an upper edge. With that said, the new 2021 Discovery might have some unique cards up its sleeves.

What’s New with the 2021 Land Rover Discovery?

  • Minor tweaks to the exterior and the interior
  • A Plug-in Hybrid alongside the conventional diesel engine

What's the Expected Price and Release Date of the 2021 Land Rover Discovery?

The new 2021 Discovery will surely have some upgrades over the previous 2020 model and so there might be some revision in the price. The 2020 model starts at around $52,300 for the base SE model and the 2021 model is likely to be placed with a slight price hike.

There is no denying the fact that the current 2020 model is equipped to the brim with features as well as a powerful engine. Next year’s model could be equipped with these top of the line features and might also see some upgrades. The expected reveal of the 2021 Land Rover Discovery is late this year.

What will the 2021 Land Rover Discovery get under the hood?

In the powertrain department, the current offering gets 2 engine options. This Discovery comes with a 3.0-liter turbo V6 engine that is capable of producing 340hp and 332lb-ft of peak torque. The other engine is a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine that churns 254hp and nearly 443lb-ft of peak torque. Though the diesel motor is low power it makes up for the sheer torque on offer at low RPMs. Both of the engines are mated to a convenient 8-speed automatic transmission for the hassle-free drive.

With that said Land Rover discovery is one of the top performers amongst its rivals at the same price point. The sad part is that the diesel engine is not available in the landmark trim. By and large, we can expect that the 2021 Discovery to be powered by the same engine with a new addition of a hybrid powertrain. A whole new powertrain with a smaller turbo petrol engine and a hybrid motor might make its debut next year.

The new powertrain will make the vehicle even quicker off the line and will surely aid the vehicle in its off-road capabilities. Also, the 2021 hybrid powertrain will surely be much more efficient and environmentally friendly. Well, the Audi Q5 outruns every contender in the battle, this is because of the hybrid powertrain.

Shifting towards a Hybrid powertrain is a smart choice where every carmaker is focusing on more power and less emission. Land Rover with their new 2021 Discovery is all set to make a mark in the segment. Nevertheless, the Land Rover propels from standstill to 60mph in about 6.7 seconds which is fairly respectable considering its size.

How does the 2021 Land Rover Discovery handle?

For the most part, big bulky SUVs and handling do not go hand in hand. There is a huge body roll when chucked into corners and the tires scream for grip. But the story here is quite different. The LR Discovery delivers fairly good performance along with the sharp corners all thanks to its active suspension which is responsible for controlling a decent amount of body roll.

Also, this car gets air suspension which translates to the cabin being devoid of movement due to the bumps and potholes. This premium suspension also helps the SUV in going off-road coupled with the amazing steering response which gives confidence to the driver.

How many MPGs will the 2021 Land Rover Discovery deliver?

A supercharged V6 petrol engine does not go altogether. With that said the Discovery delivers fairly decent mileage to the gallon when considering the engine and the power that he car produces. To be precise the SUV returns about 16mpg in the city and about 21mpg on the highway which is the lowest in the segment. When combined the car delivers about 18mpg.

Considering the hybrid the Mercedes delivered the most miles to the gallon. We can expect the same with the hybrid which will be offered with the new 2021 model. When running the vehicle on gasoline engines the GLC 350e delivers 25mpg whereas it increases by more than 2 folds. More to it is that the car is environment friendly.

What to expect from the 2021 Land Rover Discovery's interior?

The 2021 Discovery shall follow the new Land Rover interior design scheme. For 2020, the car comes equipped with climatized front and rear seats with a heated function for the steering wheel. There is also an option for the 3rd row of seats which sure hampers the boot space but is still practical enough for a weekend worth of luggage. This SUV also boasts of an all-digital instrument cluster which is customizable on the driver’s part.

Land Rover Discovery is the most practical car of the lot. Well, both the german offerings get a hybrid powertrain which somewhat intrudes in the trunk and eats up the boot space in the rear. We expect the same might happen with the 2021 Discovery which is supposed to get a new hybrid powertrain.

2021 Land Rover Discovery: Infotainment System and Connectivity

Like the other vehicles from the Land Rover line-up, this too gets a new dash with a touch screen infotainment system that is integrated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Besides, the car also gets a dual-zone climate control for the lower variants and a four-zone unit in the top two trims.

The new 2021 model is still under development and the 2020 Discovery will surely give the right glimpse. The current Discovery offers all the current safely mandatory safety tech which includes.

  • Lane Keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • High-speed emergency braking
  • 360-degree camera
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • All-terrain info
  • Tow assist

Will there be any changes to the exterior of the 2021 Land Rover Discovery?

Land Rover as a company is known for some amazing looking vehicles, 2021 Discovery is no exception. With that said, the 2021 model will get some minor weeks in the exterior design department as seen in the camo vehicle. There is a possibility that there will be no changes in terms of dimensions when viewing the two models side to side.

As for the styling, the Land Rover Defender has always looked tough and rugged top to bottom. The 2021 model is expected to be similar in terms of the general design philosophy. It will probably feature plastic cladding along the lower end of the vehicle in order to give it a more rugged look and added practicality while off-roading.

When considering its rivals the Discovery is the longest, widest, and tallest which is evident when seen in person. Besides, the sheer size of the vehicle lends it the appropriate road presence.

Will the 2021 Land Rover Discovery be worth it?

With 2020 Land Rover Discovery not disappointing in any aspect we have our hopes high with the new 2021 model. This vehicle offers the right about tech and the opinion to take it on rough roads or highways which add to the versatility of the SUV. Sure, it might come at a premium but it’ll surely be worth the money and wait.
