The recently unveiled Ferrari Roma is all about style, power, and comfort put in together with high precision. As an entry-level Ferrari, the Roma slots one step higher than the Portofino with the same engine but a greater emphasis upon comfort and opulence. Thankfully, the upcoming 2021 Ferrari Roma is not expected to carry significant changes and should happily retain all its core attributes.

After the recently unveiled Portofino, which replaced the California T, the Roma is the latest entrant to the Ferrari GT family. This car is going to redefine the segment and hold the torch for the next few years in the grand tourer segment. Unveiled in 2019 and slated for a 2020 launch, the Roma would now appear as a 2021 model. Courtesy to the Corona pandemic and the prevailing market conditions.

With the same engine and mechanics as the Portofino, the Roma emphasizes a bit more towards style and an extended sense of opulence. Thanks to its curvy outfit and an enhanced cabin layout over the Portofino. No surprise, being a Ferrari, the Roma’s furious 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 would make you smile from ear to ear every time you pull its strings hard. With all the info and on-road manners on tap, we take a quick look here at the 2021 Ferrari Roma.

Expected Price and Release Date

Initially slated for a mid-2020 launch, the 2021 Ferrari Roma is not likely to hit the stores before late 2020 or even early 2021. Though Ferrari is yet to run a concrete announcement, things are not very hard to predict amidst the ongoing pandemic. Prices have already been revealed months back, and the 2021 Ferrari Roma would kick in at $225,000.

What to expect in the engine department of the 2021 Ferrari Roma?

Ferrari Roma is equipped with the same engine as Portofino has. We are talking about a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8, hooked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Despite sharing the same engine, though, the V8 in the Roma is tuned for a maximum output of 612 hp instead of the 591 horses in the Portofino. However, as a power update, the 2021 Ferrari Portofino would also be having a similar output with the exact 612 hp as the Roma.

Be it the Portofino or Roma, and the V8 block is as thrilling as any other Ferrari out there. The engine loves being revved to the redline with an excellent power reserve across the rpm range. All the 612 ponies feel very playful with the Roma, with rapid starts off the line. The 8-sped transmission, too, works like a charm and is lightning quick in channeling power to the wheels.

No surprise, the Ferrari’s V8 dominates the competition. The power produced by Roma is best in the segment, and the rivals are far behind the exotic Italian machine. However, the Bentley Continental dominates Roma in terms of torque. Not to forget that the available W12 block with the Continental produces more power than the Roma. Interestingly, the Ferrari Roma does feel snappier than its competitors with its raw power, lightweight body, and extremely efficient dynamics.

How will the 2021 Ferrari Roma Handle?

When it comes to Ferrari, one should rest be assured about the sumptuous ride quality on-demand along with agile handling. While we still ahvent still got our hands on the media car, the Roma should be identical to the Portofino in terms of ride and handling. We were already delighted by the taut manners of the Portofino with its agile handling and swift change of character and the Roma should be no different.

However, what seems as an enhanced aerodynamics over the POrtofino along with greater emphasis on opulence and comfort, the Roma should be more biased towards its Grand Touring attributes. Stable and comfident straight line passings, swift cornering, brisk takeoffs along with a character that could be as humble as any daily-driver should well be the core essentialities of the Roma. What its actually like on the move, we will only have to wait and find out.

How many miles to the gallon will the 2021 Ferrari Roma return?

While buying a sports car fuel economy should not be a concern as these cars are performance kings in which fuel economy is not given more importance. Talk about the Ferrari Roma which is based on Portofino’s platform would offer similar figures as its mechanical twin. While the official EPA estimates are not yet released, one can expect the Roma to churn out 18 combined mpg. For a 600hp machine, 18 MPG is an excellent score for its class for sure. The twin turbos on a smaller 3.9-liter V8and well-calibrated automatic transmission must be handy in the Roma’s fuel efficeincy.

Roma’s figures are decent and worth competing against, although the DB 11 leads the race by minute difference. DB 11 is followed by continental with a score of 19 MPG, and Roma and Turbo S share the third place with a rating of 18 MPG.

Overall there is no considerable difference between the cars and don’t create an impact on the overall rating of the vehicle. With the above stats, we can say that Roma’s engine gives excellent performance while being efficient and economical.

What to expect from 2021 Ferrari Roma’s Interior?

This is where Roma is different from the other Ferraris, and it can be said that Roma has started a new interior concept amongst the Ferraris. Roma has got very few physical buttons as everything has switched to a touch system, even the Manettino switch has a digital screen. The new steering wheel also has touch-sensitive buttons, these all changes suggest a significant change from the usual Ferraris. Ferrari delivered a much needed interior change through Roma.

Roma being a coupe, offers more space to the occupants. For the trunk than Portofino, most of the interior space is covered with Alcantara material with red or yellow stripes. Ferrari has also given its fancy key with the Roma, which is a Ferrari logo with buttons on its back. Overall, the interior vibe of the Roma does highlight the sporty traditionalities of Ferrari but in a way which is more luxury-oriented than most of its siblings.

The room provided in Roma’s front is spacious, but at the rear, the seating is not practical; this is why Ferrari has been smart enough to mention the Roma’s seating capacity as 2+2.

Roma has a decent cargo capacity, and one should not expect more from a sports car, with 9.6 cu. Ft. of cargo space Roma stands ahead of DB 11 and 911 turbo S while Continental steals the limelight with 12.6 cu. Ft. Of cargo space.

Does it come loaded with tech inside?

The Ferrari designers have created separate cabins for driver and passenger, naming it as dual-cockpit technology. Roma’s cabin consists of three screens, and The 16” digital instrument cluster provides all the necessary information. In contrast, the central display with an 8.4” vertical screen and a new passenger display is exceptionally intuitive and user-friendly.

The system is powered with a JBL sound system, and it also supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Furthermore, you also get a long vertical strip-like screen for the passenger which informs about the various things around the vehicle. While we already enjoy Ferrari’s latest infotainment deployments in the likes of the Portofino, the Roma should be no different either.

What about the Exterior styling of the 2021 Ferrari Roma?

Roma, although it shares its structure with Portofino it varies when it comes to exterior designing, Roma sticks to the traditional Ferrari designs inspired by 50s and 60s Ferrari cars. With a long bonnet and sleek design, it reminds of the ancient Ferraris.

During the unveiling at Rome, Ferrari offered Roma in many exterior color options, including Rosso Scuderia, Blu Pozzi, Grigio Alloy, Verde British, Azzurro California, and Blue Cervino. These color options increase the beauty of the car and further attract buyers.

Roma has got bigger and lighter than Portofino, and the rear track is widened to increase the sporty dynamics of the car. However, despite a shorter length than its rivals like the Bentley Continental and Aston Martin DB11, the Roma does have a great presence on the road. Thanks to its long bonnet, sloping roof, and an exterior profile which is draped in subtle yet aggressive body-lines. No doubt, the Roma is one of the best looking GT cars on the road today.

Will the 2021 Ferrari Roma be worth your time and money?

Ferrari Roma is worth time, money, and everything. It is truly an engineering marvel, and it serves you with luxury and thrill at the same time. Roma is a bit different from the Ferrari family, and it has several up-gradation from the previous Ferraris to make it more appealing. If you are looking for a premium coupe, then this is it, surely this is the one you are looking for, and you will not regret later. While it guarantees exquisite styling and high-level comfort and luxury, the prancing horse on its nose also ensures an unparalleled sporty driving experience.
