The 2000s created a new trend in the automobile sector with the rise in sales and demand for SUVs. With a new market to conquer the like of BMW and Mercedes quickly brought forward their performance-oriented SUVs and made fast behemoths a trend. It was in 2012 when Lamborghini gave the world a glimpse of what it is capable of.
Cue in the Lamborghini Urus. The bold body lines and the voluptuous build did raise a lot of eyebrows but the pure performance silenced the lot. The SUV does justify the Lambo tag.

This is the biggest production Lambo available in the market. What many would not know is the fact that the Urus is based on the LM002 truck which was manufactured between ‘86-’93. Returning to the present, the Lambo has got everything right with this beast.
It has the space and comfort of an SUV and the performance like that of a sports car. In the words that Lamborghini’s website defines it “Urus can be enjoyed whether in the city, on the racetrack, on a snowy mountain, on gravel country roads or in the desert.” This goes on to prove the versatility of the SUV.

This gorgeous monstrosity comes as a single trim offering. The list of features that are standard is extensive and exudes luxury and performance features all the same. There are plenty of options available to personalize the vehicle according to individual taste.

It has been established that the Urus is a single trim offering which makes things easy during the purchase process. The only confusing aspect would be the options selection to make this vehicle personalized to suit the buyer choices.
The heart of this mammoth is a twin-turbo V8. The engine is capable and responsive with seemingly unfathomable power on tap. It is a V8 borrowed from Audi which is tuned by Lambo to maintain its performance expectations. On startup, the V8 comes alive with a snarl and thumps its heart out which is intimidating even at a standstill.
Push the throttle and this beat roars and vrooms like no other which is music to the ears of enthusiasts.
The all-powerful engine is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission that complements the engine well. The shifts are precise and on point to achieve the optimum performance. The Urus doesn’t twitch or jolt and feels very stoic while driving. The gear shifts are smooth and linear when compared to other Lamborghini cars.

The power of Lamborghini puts all its competitors in a mosh pit and throws them around left and right like a raging bull. It produces the highest performance figure out of the lot. The Autobiography has the biggest engine but it fluctuates away from performance to luxury shedding power. The Bentayga and Merc have a similar engine like that of the Urus but can’t keep up with bull.
Tap the pedal but be sure not to blink, the torque from the engine propels this behemoth to speeds beyond the speed limits in just a few seconds. The power is available with just the slightest foot on the gas pedal. It is amazing to see a bulky SUV with better acceleration than most Coupes and Sedans.

The bull continues to put its competition to shame on every comparison aspect. There is a difference of a second in the acceleration, which on a drag strip is a huge number! The Bentayga and G63 have similar acceleration figures whereas the Rover struggles to keep up with the lot.
There is a wide grin on the face because of the brilliant power and acceleration of the Urus. Remember that feeling after riding a bicycle for the first time as a kid? The pure and immense joy. It’s the same feeling all over again except this time, the ride is a 600 plus horse-powered raging bull.
The all-wheel-drive system gives the confidence to take sharp corners without sacrificing speed. Another aspect that helps the manoeuvrability of the SUV is the rear-wheel steering which turns the rear wheels with a 3-degree angle. This helps give the Lambo a sense of control even with all the bulk and weight on it.
The drive modes do change the entire feel of the SUV. The Corsa Mode or Race Mode in simple terms stiffens the suspensions and dynamics reducing the body roll to the minimum. The Anima Mode or the Sport Mode does the same but it’s nowhere as loud or powerful as the Corsa. The Strada Mode or Comfort mode makes this SUV a quiet and serene place to be in as the exhausts are closed and the suspensions are at the softest setting.
There are no options on opening and closing the exhaust to hear the pops and bangs coming out the exhaust. The only way to hear the engine roar is switching the SUV in Anima or Corsa Mode where the gurgles and crackles are audible. It is not as loud as the Huracan but rather has its own tune which is like a symphony to the ears of enthusiasts.
Lamborghini has installed the biggest brake rotors on production vehicles ever in history. This is just proof of the unimaginable power that the Urus makes. It’s a wild bull which has to be controlled and these big brakes make it possible.
The brakes are responsive and manage the power and weight of the SUV well.

From the available braking figures, the Lambo steals the show again in this comparison. With the biggest brakes out of the entire line up. The Rover comes second with the braking figures but has the smallest brake rotors.
The Bentayga and the G63 have almost similar brake rotors where the Bentayga has slightly bigger rotors.
Well it is no secret that Super cars or Sports cars are not fuel efficient. The Lambo here is an abomination with Super car figures and SUV size which completely make the question of fuel efficiency seem redundant.
But nonetheless if dirven in Strada mode with a constant eye on the speed might return a not so shabby MPG. Switch the mode up and go crazy with the power, trips to the fuel station might be frequent.

All the vehicles in this line up are heavy and have big engines making the question of fuel efficiency a one that’s more like a joke. The Bentayga and the Rover have the best performance here out of the entire line up. The Lambo is beat in this particular comparison as its not the forte of the Urus.
The interior of the SUV is a bigger version of the Huracan in many ways. The air ducts the steering wheel and the launch control in the centre console prove its worth of a super SUV. The interior is brimmed with luxury materials which are top-notch. Alcantara, carbon fibre and leather are sprawling in the interior.
The front seats are bolstered in and keep the torso in place while taking sharp corners. The seats are adjustable for better personalization and driving position. The front seats are heated and ventilated to give the extra comfort and luxurious touch within a sports car. The steering wheel is the flat bottom Lamborghini steering with mounted controls. The steering is adjustable as well.
The rear has an option of a 3 seater bench or a 2 seater captain seats. The two-seat option provides better comfort and comes with heated and ventilated seats as well. The all-glass roof makes the interior feel roomier.

With the available numbers, the Merc wins this contest. It has the most spacious cabin and provides the most space for occupants in the first row. The Rover has better seating comfort for the occupants in the rear seats. Whereas the Bentayaga is spacious but not as much as the Rover or Mercedes. The numbers for the Lambo are not available yet but it is spacious on the inside.
As far as interior storage is concerned, the Urus offers a decent amount. There's a respectable cubby hole in the front seats. It is sufficiently large to hold your cell phone and other individual items such as wallets. For door pockets, the front door pockets are of a decent size.
Lamborghini has made use of various VW group components and it is evident on the infotainment as well. The infotainment is an adaptation of the Audi MMI system which is considered one of the best. The screen resolution is perfect and gives the best visibility to the driver even in the harshest of sunlight.
The driver information screen is an adaptation of the Audi Virtual Cockpit. The centre console houses two screens that control various functions in the vehicle.
The infotainment also controls the four-zone climate control. This allows every occupant in the vehicle even the one on the rear seats to set temperatures according to their own requirements. There are screens in the rear to help the passengers in the rear seat to adjust the temperatures.
The entire infotainment is powered by the 21-speaker Bang & Olufsen Ultra Premium Audio System which produces over 1700-W. The quality of the speakers are bang on and have a really good output.
The 2020 Lamborghini Urus looks huge on the inside and the interior space is also great yet with regards to cargo space in the boot, contenders, for example, the Mercedes AMG G63 offer greater practicality.
The 3 seater bench seat can be folded in a 40-20-40 manner. The centre seat can be folded for carrying long items, for example, surfboards while seating a passenger on either side. With the back seats completely folded down, the Urus has 56 cubic feet of capacity which are sufficient to keep a ton of stuff. However, with the seats in their up position, there is not enough space.

When compared to the competition, the Urus performs decently with 21.5 cubic feet of the cargo area. The Bentayga offers the least in the bunch with 17.1 cubic feet. The AMG offers the most space with 34.3 cubes- to add to that, the cargo area of the G63 is boxy and tall that adds to the practicality of the vehicle.
From the front, the SUV looks more or less like the Aventador hit the gym, got beefed up and now has a whole new bulky demeanour. One aspect about this particular design style which gives an idea of how the designers at Lamborghini have used the most basic shapes and added them all over.
The front grille has a number of hexagonal vents and the Y shaped headlights give this SUV a Lamborghini feel. But these shapes have been used on the sides of the rear and even in the rims.
At the end of the day, this is a Lamborghini and has sharp edges and lines sharper than the Katana blade. The rear has the Y shaped tail lights which make it all the more attractive. The rear diffuser houses the dual exhaust which is loud enough to make the neighbours file a noise complaint.

These SUVs are big on the size and bigger on performance. The Lambo stands at second place with the Bentayga in the first when it comes to the length of these heavy players. The Merc is the smallest in length but has the highest ground clearance out of the lot. This high stance of the Merc allows it to take up the dirt roads much easier than the rest of the competition.
With the high-performance capability the Urus has to be prepared for any and all kinds of a possible hazard. Lambo has ensured that safety in this SUV is top-notch as the rest of the vehicle. There are a few autonomous features that can assist the driver in numerous ways to ease the drive experience.
Some features included as standard are-
The Bentayga is Bentley's battle cry for the growing SUV business. The Bentayga is a taller and sturdier Bentley while retaining all the interior luxury standards.
The performance though is where the Urus takes the win. It is more of a personal choice here.
The Lambo and Rover are essentially SUVs that are poles apart. While the Lamborghini is a performance vehicle the Land Rover is focused on luxury. Both of these vehicles have their own target audience and it would be an injustice to compare them as equals.
So, if it's just simple fun and throttle response Urus is the one for you. On the contrary, if its comfort and luxury the SV Autobiography would be the answer.
The G63 is the evergreen SUV from Mercedes which is a very popular car that plenty of celebs own. Take this car on any terrain and it performs the same with no care of where it drives through. The Urus, on the other hand, might not be that great while off-roading on the hills but Lamborghini states that it can handle multiple terrains.
But not as well as the G63 which has the independent suspension in the front which gives it much more confidence while off-roading. Also, the Merc is lighter on the pockets compared to the Lamborghini.
The Urus is certainly heavy on the price but it is a Lamborghini after all. The Super SUV comes as the most pocket-friendly offering from Lambo. It has plenty of space and room to offer and can seat 4 adults comfortably.
The Lamborghini Urus is a good pick for the sheer performance it has to offer. The price to own a Lamborghini just went down which makes it a really good addition to anyone's garage.
