The 2020 Chevy Spark is one of the most pocket-friendly cars on sale today. But when it comes to safety and safety equipment, Chevrolet has managed to squeeze in a lot- they have managed to include 10 airbags and a 4 wheel ABS system. At $13,200 the Chevy Spark literally offers very good safety tech.

Chevrolet has actually managed to pack the 2020 Spark with a lot of safety features and equipment. These features not just include 10 airbags and 4 wheel ABS but also a body made out of high strength steel and a steel cage. Some key features are-

  • 10 Cabin Airbags
  • 4 Wheel ABS
  • Lane Departure Warning
  •  Engine Immobilizer

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) Ratings

The 2020 Chevy Spark hasn’t been crash-tested by the NHTSA yet. But it offers good safety equipment so it can be expected to a safe car.

According to the NHTSA, there has been 1 recall for the Spark due to faulty airbag settings. Chevrolet has taken care of this matter and fixed all the affected cars.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety(IIHS) Ratings

The 2020 Chevy Spark hasn’t been crash-tested by the IIHS. However, the previous year’s model went to the same test and it scored quite well. It scored a “good’ rating in almost every segment except for driver’s head, neck and torso where it scored an “acceptable” rating. Considering the fact that nothing has changed in terms of the structure, it is safe to say that these results can be used as a reference.

What features make the Chevy Spark safe?

For the 2020 model year, Chevrolet has equipped the Spark with a load of safety features and equipment. Even the body is made out of high strength steel and the car also features a steel safety cage. Chevy Spark is also equipped with 10 airbags and 4 wheel ABS as standard.

Forward Automatic Braking System and Forward Collision Alert

The 2020 Chevy can use its forward radar to scan the road in front. If it detects any obstacle on the road, it can alert the driver and the car can even brake itself up to 37 MPH. This feature can be very useful in both city and highway driving.

Lane Departure Warning

Lane departure warning system uses a camera on the car to scan the lane markings on a road and warns the driver if the car starts to veer out of the lane unless there is a turn signal on in that direction. This might help in situations where the driver is inattentive or distracted.

Rear View Parking Camera and Park Assist

The Chevy Spark is also equipped with a rearview parking camera and park to assist with ultra-sonic sensors that alert the driver if it senses an obstacle. The camera misses out on guidelines. Even though the Spark has good rear visibility, the rearview camera makes it easier to back into parking spaces.

Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control

The 2020 Chevrolet Spark comes equipped with both electronic stability control and traction control as standard. Both these devices help the car keep all 4 of the tires in check and prevents them from losing traction and skidding off the road. This feature is very helpful, especially in winter/snowy conditions.

Anti Theft Features

The Chevy Spark comes as standard with anti-theft features including an engine immobilizer which prevents the engine from running if the system detects a wrong/fake key. It will also prevent the engine from running if someone tries to ‘hot-wire’ the car.

Child Safety

The 2020 Chevrolet Spark, is also equipped with child safety features such as child seat anchor points and child safety door locks. The child safety door locks prevent children from accidentally opening a door while the car is in motion.

Is the Chevrolet Spark Safe?

For the money, the number of safety features that Chevrolet offers is just impressive. When compared to other vehicles in this segment, the Spark fares better.
