The exotic looking 2020 Audi R8 Coupe may look identical to its original model but the newer version has undergone a drastic makeover and has shed few pounds while adding some of the contemporary technologies along with a sheer improvement in terms of performance in its repertoire. After being featured in the Iron man movie, which added to its cool quotient and head-turning looks. Maintaining the curb appeal of the Quattro R8 the new model's all-wheel-drive is based on is sister car Lamborghini Huracan. It's cutting-edge design and technology ups the ante and is sure to draw much attention from its buyers.

Still using the same engine as its predecessors, which is a naturally aspirated FSI V10. This motor has been tweaked this year to increase the power output to 562 horsepower. In addition to that, the car now produces 406 lb-ft of torque, these numbers are enough to launch the car from zero to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds. Surprisingly, even with its Performance package, it does not cost more than $200,000.

Undoubtedly the 2020 Audi R8 has been masterfully crafted and has an air of sophistication and elegance which only a few cars in the market can boast of. It is observed that the Audi R8 resembles somewhat to Lamborghini Huracan in terms of engine and transmission as both of them use the V-10 engine and dual-clutch transmission.

For the 2020 year, the R8 coupe is available in two trims. Talking about the base trim which is powered by a 5.2L FSI V10 that gives out 562 horsepower, a bump of 30 hp from the previous year version. For those hungry for a little more power, there is the R8 Performance which can surely help in fulfilling your horsepower need with its upgraded V10 that now produces 611 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque. Both the trims are mostly identical everywhere else. While, the Performance trim allows you to put more carbon-fiber options around the interior and exterior of the car, helping in uplifting the aesthetic appeal of your R8 even more.

Although the Performance trim undoubtedly has better appeal, we still recommend you sticking to the base trim as it is still a perfect looking car. Even though it is 0.2-second slower in 0-60 time but that is something liveable and similar fun to drive. Don’t forget you will save a whopping 24 grand while going for the base trim.

Powered by the 5.2-liter FSI V10 engine the 2020 Audi R8 generates a whopping 562 hp and 406 pound-feet of torque. Both the trim levels come with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed automated manual transmission "S Tronic" which is standard across the lineup. The Quattro all-wheel-drive system boosts up the engine which can send up to 100 percent of torque to the front axle as and when required. The brand claims that the V10 Plus could reach up to 205 mph as its maximum capacity. This R8 is a perfect balance between practicality and all-out performance, as it can be a good cruise when driven in Comfort mode or tear up the back roads with Sport mode.

If you want to save a few thousand grand and still make more power and torque, the GT-R would never disappoint you in any situation. Moreover, the R8 lacks to match the legendary handling and transmission of the Porsche 911.

Acceleration

Providing you with an instantaneous response off the line, the R8 is capable of sweet but controlled acceleration. Even with the controlled acceleration to save your neck from snapping backward, it still manages to reach 60 mph from naught in 3.3 sec, which is more than good enough. Talking about the top speed which is 202 mph, even greater than both the Nissan GT-R Track Edition(196 mph) and the Acura NSX(191 mph).

Now the 2020 Audi R8 comes standard with carbon-ceramic brakes in all trims. As a result of this, the R8 is now capable of showing much better braking numbers over the rest of its competition. The R8 has been making rave review due to its super braking capabilities as its brake pedals are monumentally effective and seem fade resistant on the road. 

There are only a few cars out there that are so rewarding and effortless to accelerate and make it stop. Even after weighing the heaviest of the lot, the GT-R still manages to offer similar braking performance. Still, the R8 performs better than the 911 Turbo, owing to its excellent Quattro AWD and superior ABS.

Ride and Handling

The biggest USP of Audi performance cars is their rally winning Quattro AWD drive system. As no official EPA rating are available for the2020 R8 Coupe. As the 5.2L V10 has been tuned to provide better fuel economy when not pushed hard. Even though Audi confirmed that this R8 would provide better fuel economy than any of the cars in its segment, giving a 20 mpg on the highway. But, while speaking about city, the R8 delivers 13 mpg which is quite low for a sports car but this what you pay for the best sports car by the four-ringed marque. Along with a bigger capacity 21.1-gallon fuel tank, this car is capable of taking you for a grand tour.

Talking competition, being a hybrid supercar, the Acura NSX showcases the best fuel economy figures. Showcasing similar combined mpg figures is te Porsche 911 with 21mpg combined. Audi is known for offering premium interior with ultimate color combination and upholstery. Audi R8 interior is top-notch with premium packing. While the front console is very upmarket and classy. With seats covered in Nappa leather, making it more comfortable. Audi’s MMI navigation system is a quick way to stay connected and navigate your routes via google earth. The multi-function steering wheel that includes many street/track functions, makes many things easy for the driver. The Performance trim can grant you access to enough carbon fiber that would cause the McLaren 570S to double-check itself in the mirror.

The seats are made up of premium material that’s why they are cozy and comfortable. The seats are 8-way power adjustable and the steering wheel supports tilting-and-telescopic adjustments. Taking two passengers into consideration, there is enough space and headroom for the driver and the co-passenger. Equipped with Dual-Zone climate control as standard across both the trims which makes life much easier. However, the equipment space is limited in comparison to competitors like Acura NCX and Nissan GT-R.

Perfect comparison is not possible as two cars support 4 passengers while the other two offer two seats only. Still, the R8 manages to provide the best interior space amongst its rivals followed by Porsche 911 with identical figures.

Infotainment System

Audi manages to put some effort into the insides of the R8 too. With a 12.3inch interactive center console display which serves as a reverse backup camera and also makes up for the infotainment system in the same display unit, which is considered as one of the most exotic features of the Audi R8. Its customizable digital gauge display ups the ante as it provides a driver-centric feeling inside the cabin. Cargo Volume

The R8 is a bit disappointing when it comes to storage capabilities as its tiny 8.0 ft of cubic space detracts from the R8's everyday usability. But, going by the sportscar category, it offers a respectable amount of space to store your belongings as it can only take in two soft overnight bags into the snout, and maybe to some extent a working case which is only good enough for the daily commute. Inside the cabin, you can have a shallow glove box, two small door pockets, a decent-sized bin ahead of the shift lever and two cup holders behind the occupants' elbow cover among others.

The attractive looking coupe has a distinct front end joined by a malevolent looking DRLs along with the aggressive headlights which point sharply to the edges of the nose. Inspired by the R8 LMS GT3 and GT4 race cars, the front 3 faux inlets above the grille looks fabulous. The rear is well crafted giving it a tough look with a broad stance.
