Alfa Romeo quotes that it holds the driver at the center of its design. That does hold true when you sit in behind the wheel and take the car out for a spin. The clove leave logo has only released one car, the 4C in the US and has now launched a luxury sedan after 3 decades.

Fun Fact - Not many know that Enzo Ferrari was a director at Alfa Romeo before he started a company named after him.

This rather unheard of Italian is going to compete against the Americans and the Germans. The way the Giulia drives, she's bound to leave a smile on anyone's face. What Giulia seems to lack though is practicality. Let's go ahead and dive into the "why?" right away.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

It might not be a car that you have heard about a lot, nor it is something you have seen a lot, but the Giulia Quadrifoglio is the most unique looking sedan available in the market. Giulia is a beast that packs over 500 horses giving it some excellent performance stats. This Italian beauty shares some of its lineages with Ferrari very closely. It has a closer relationship with the Ferrari California.

What configuration do we recommend?

The answer here is the single trim that the Quadrifoglio is offered in is the best pick. Just one trim makes it is a simple “yes or no” decision. Walk into an Alfa Romeo Dealership, look at the available options, personalize it and drive out in style with a smile like never before.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Sedan Engine and Performance

The attention to detail in the Quadrifoglio is not just limited to its design. The engine under the hood makes it even more special. The V6 in Guilia Quadrifoglio generates 505 horsepower with 443 lb-ft of torque.

Alfa's spokesperson, Berj Alexanian states that the engine in this Italian beaut is "inspired" by Ferrari California T. But we all know that the engine has the same elements and parts as that of the Ferrari California. The engine in the Quadrifoglio comes with 2 fewer cylinders where the Twin Turbos is in the V6 like that in a Ferrari.

The transmission is shipped from ZF Friedrichshafen AG which is an excellent transmission that is used in supercars or highly premium cars like Rolls Royce, Maserati, and Lamborghini. Quick is the wrong term to use to describe the transmission and the gear shifts.

BMW has the biggest engine in this line up generating the most power. Alfa Romeo and Audi have similar engine capacity, the difference lies in the power figures. The Alfa makes more power than Audi taking the second spot here followed by Audi standing the last.

Alfa Romeo has pulled all its shots in designing this car which is a pretty steep competition for the Germans. With two cylinders removed and the Twin-Turbo set up present in the V of the engine, the performance gets a spike. the acceleration of the Guilia is amazing and the engine sends power to the wheel till the redlines. It helps Giulia propel from a standstill at really amazing speeds. Alfa claims that Guilia can accelerate from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, but there are a few individual testers that claim they have achieved the feat in 3.6 seconds.

In the right hand, the Giulia QF is a lethal weapon. However, it needs the right tires to put all that power to the ground.

On paper, the RS5 Sportback schools the Alfa and the BMW. While people claim the Giulia QF can match the RS5’s acceleration, it is yet to be seen. The 550i xDrive, despite having the biggest engine, is the slowest in terms of acceleration, thanks to its heavy body.

Ride and Handling

The all-weather tires Alfa Romeo offered on the Giulia QF before has never done justice to it before. High-performance summer tires will be able to truly put all its power to the ground. The suspensions on the Quadrifoglio have immense grit and keeps it glued to the ground. Body roll on the corners is minimal, instilling the confidence to attack corners.

The DNA drive mode selection that Alfa Romeo has offered in the past should make its way into the 2020 Giulia QF as well. Standing for Dynamic, Natural and Advanced Efficiency, the drive modes tune the performance of the car to get the maximum performance, provide a relaxed yet driving experience or optimize fuel efficiency respectively.

The brakes have not been changed for 2020. 14-inch brake rotors provide great braking performance while the brake pedals make you feel in control. The only disappointment we have seen before is, again, the tires. The Giulia QF demands a set of performance tires to fully exploit what it is really capable of.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Braking

Although the brakes have not changed, the 2020 Giulia Quadrifoglio offers red anodized brake calipers with “Alfa Romeo” written across it.

It was surprising to see the heavy BMW give comparable braking performance to the much lighter Audi and Alfa Romeo. Being the heaviest in the class, and having comparatively smaller brakes, the BMW performs admirably. However, Guilia steals the show with a stellar “60-0” stop distance of 102 feet, followed by the RS5 and finally the BMW.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Sedan Fuel Economy

Getting 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 mpg on the highway from a twin turbo V6 cannot be considered bad. They “Advanced Efficiency” will offer increased fuel efficiency, however, we will need to test that claim further to actually see how much efficiency is increased. On a full tank, the Giulia QF can shell out somewhere between 260 to 360 miles.

The Giulia QF is also equipped with cylinder deactivation tech which shuts off some cylinders of the engine to improve fuel economy.

The Giulia QF loses the crown of Most Fuel Efficient and Range King to the BMW 550i xDrive. The difference in range between the Alfa and the BMW is due to their fuel tanks being of different sizes. The much bigger 18 gallon fuel tank. The RS5 and Giulia have similar efficiency but the Audi has much higher highway range.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Sedan Interior

Open the door and the Alfa welcomes you to its Italian flair and sportiness. The interior in the Guila is fresh and has been updated a bit from the previous model. Te gauge cluster is an updated 7 inch TFT screen with new design layouts that incorporates the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in it.

The steering wheel feels beautiful to hold and the large aluminum paddles are simply great. The steering wheel has more leather than Alcantara compared to the previous models. This is due to the constant wear and tear of the Alcantara which makes the interior look a bit duller.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Rear Seats

The dashboard has a very aesthetic flowing design smartly integrating the infotainment system. It has the gear shifters wrapped in leather for a better hands-on feel.

Heated front seats with 6-way power adjustability, they have better space than the ones found in the rear, especially for tall adults. The seats are carbon fiber bucket seats but they are pretty comfortable still. The noise cancellation in the cabin does let a few sounds get in. But mostly these sounds are of the roaring V6.

The Audi has the best seats in for the passengers in the second row. The Giulia and 550i have comparatively lesser space in the second row. The room in the front rows is nearly identical for all the cars.

The infotainment system is an 8.8-inch touchscreen panel. It has a rather easy to intuitive and easy to use UI. The screen is easily at the reach of both the driver and the passenger. There are enhanced graphics with configurable widgets which shows the level of personalization available.

The optional Harman Kardon audio setup bumps up the audio performance to the standard the car performances in every other field. With a subscription to 12 months of SiriusMX Radio, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay it makes a complete package.

Cargo Capacity

The cargo space of the previous generation was set at 13 cubic feet. While the cargo space was comparable to competitors, the trunk on the Giulia QF opened higher and narrower to the others. This made packing it with heavy or large items rather difficult. However, the rear 60/40 split seats

Cargo space is where Giulia falls behind, with the least in class cargo space. Although the rear seats fold down to increase cargo space, the increase in space is not yet known. The RS5 21.8 cubic feet is the most spacious in the class. This is when the seats are still up. After the seats come down, the 35 cubic feet is crossing into SUV territory.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Sedan Exterior

Guilia retains most of the design cues from the previous year. The Quadrifoglio has been reaching out to the streets slowly and gaining traction among enthusiasts just the same. The Italian beauty has are huge air intakes on the front bumper between which sits Alfa’s signature inverted triangular grille. There are character lines that beautifully sculpt the hood to meet the grille and give it an aggressive appeal.

On the rear, the LED tail lamps look very sharp and glaze upper half. On the lower half, the huge diffuser looks stunning with the quad exhausts housed in it. The small carbon fiber spoiler looks unique as well. Talking about unique it sports the most unique style wheels which look absolutely stunning. The wheels could have been a little bigger not that we are complaining about the current wheel size.

Guilia has the shortest length and the lowest ground clearance. It sports a larger wheelbase and the proportions are better than the wheelbase of other cars in the lineup. It is also the lightest vehicle. This helps the Guilia control better and be much more maneuverable. BMW is the longest car out of the lot and also the heaviest.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Sedan Safety

The performance spectacle of Guilia is already established enough. Apart from this Alfa has paid enough heed to provide safety for the occupants. The presence of a level 2 autonomous driver safety features makes it a safe car to drive in. The NHTSA and IIHS ratings for the Guilia are not available yet. But the chassis is made of aluminum alloys with carbon fiber components as well. The materials used in the chassis give it more structural integrity.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Sedan Competition

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio vs 2020 BMW 550i xDrive

Generally, a bigger engine comes with a price of heavier body, lower fuel economy and handling hazards. The BMW defies all these general laws and gives an exceptional performance with good fuel efficiency. However, the Giulia can give the 550i a run for its money. With its powerful engine and quick transmission, the power difference between them might not be much, but it appears over a quarter-mile. The Giulia offers what the BMW is capable of and more.

2020 BMW 550i xDrive Sedan

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio vs 2020 Audi RS5 Sportback

The RS5 has a lot of cosmetic designs on the exterior that make it good blend of luxury and sportiness. But the performance doesn't justify the looks of the car. The lack of space in the rear cabin makes it inconvenient for the rear passengers. All that while costing much higher than the Giulia Quadrifoglio. The Quadriofoglio has an equivalent performance like that of the RS5, but it has more amenities and luxuries than the RS5 does. Guilia has lower cargo space but it does make up for it in the performance and drivability.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Sedan Final Verdict

This Italian masterpiece holds up to the hype it has been making in the industry. The Germans and Americans are equally worried about the extent of competition Guilia holds. It has everything from luxury to performance to the sheer driving pleasure that one needs from behind the wheel. It does have most of its competition beat in various aspects. It is a good pick considering the price bracket it is placed in, so if one wishes to own this beauty they can go to their nearest dealerships and find the Afla Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio for sale.
